Backup, and then backup again!

January 23rd, 2012 by Amy

I cannot count the number of times I’ve heard of people losing all of their photos from their pc or memory cards. Its one of those things we always think, ‘oh that won’t happen to me!’… and inevitably… it takes the loss of precious photos to make you decide to back up.

I had it happen to me a few years ago. It was february 2009, and my cousin had just died suddenly. I kept all of my personal photos on an external harddrive, sat on top of the pc base unit. I was assigned the job of making the order of services for Cheryls funeral. I was printing masses of these little booklets, I leaned down to change the paper in the printer and watched in horror as my harddrive fell 2 feet to the floor.

It was broken. Completly useless. I was one of the unlucky ones, I sent it off to be repaired, by the professionals. I didn’t care the cost, the photos of my cousin were on that drive and I NEEDED them back. Unfortunately the drive was too badly damaged. Luckily I had my favorite photos on a photo sharing website (flickr.com) so I could download some of them. I never did manage to recover the videos though.

Recently one of my friends had the misfortune of losing their photos too, this prompted me to write this post.

Back up your photos, before its too late. And back up regularly. Ideally, have more than one backup.

I backup to two external drives, then put my favorites onto discs, and also online. I refuse to lose all my irreplaceable photos ever again. Please don’t just have one copy of those photos. And if you can, have a copy at a family members house. So that in the event of a fire etc there is another backup somewhere safe!

And while I’m being all bossy and ranty, print your photos! Don’t just leave them sat wasted on your pc, your kids will love looking through albums and remembering all the good times you’ve had!

Fathers Day 2011

Yep, that curly red haired child sucking her thumb is me. This photo was taken shortly after I became a big sister. A proud day for my Dad! (even if he secretly wanted a boy!!)

Dads are such an important part of your childs life, and that special day when we say thank you for all that they do is fast approaching. This Fathers Day, why not treat him to a special portrait?  I will be offering a 10% discount on all my prints and packages ordered before 10th June. (Discount code is DAD11 )

Below are just a few of the proud fathers I photographed in 2010!

Four years old

March 27th, 2011 by Amy

I really love to photograph this age group! At four years old, kids are just beginning to develop their personalities, but are young enough to have no inhibitions! It really can make for great photos. Emylee was, as usual, so much fun to photograph, she giggled her way through the session! I love these photos, and am so happy that I can finally be outside taking photos again! Yay for spring!

The daffodils aren’t in bloom nearly long enough, contact me now to arrange your spring time session before they are all gone!

Welcome Baby Jack!

March 20th, 2011 by Amy

This little guy just melts my heart! He has big soulful eyes and the most gorgeous baby hair I have ever seen! He wasn’t in the mood for photos when I first met him, so we split our session over two separate days. I just loved having an excuse to spend more time with him :)

I just love newborns! If you would like to book a newborn session, contact me now at amy@amylanephotography.com

Springtime Collaboration

March 12th, 2011 by Amy

This session was a lot of fun! This is from April 2010. The couple had won their session in a competition, at the last minute they sent a message asking if the Mums young cousins could come along, they were down from Scotland visiting. The more the merrier, right?? But with a group this large, I figured I would need some help, so I had Cassie from CMG Photography come along too! It was our first time working together, and it was kind of chaos but huge amounts of fun!

Spring and autumn are my favorite times of year for photos, so many gorgeous colours and gorgeous low sunshine, perfect!

I’m looking forward to working with Cassie again this year!

I was so excited to be asked to photograph Shelley and her bump! I have known Shelley since childhood and when I heard she was pregnant I was over the moon for her! Baby Mia is due in just a few shorts weeks now, and I can’t wait to meet her!

Here are a selection of the photos from our Maternity session:

Catching up

March 2nd, 2011 by Amy

I’m going to add a few catchup posts over the next few months to show off some of the work I did through 2010.

This session was for a little girl named Emily-Grace. She was due to celebrate her first birthday, so we planned a session with a first birthday theme with pink balloons and pink glittery cupcakes! Emily had a great time destroying the cupcake, made by Sheilas Cakes!

Does your little one have a birthday coming up soon? Why not book a birthday session? These kind of photos make great keepsakes and would also work well on invitations! Contact me now to book yours

Mothers Day

March 1st, 2011 by Amy

As a child I loved to sit and look through our old family photos. My great grandfather was a photographer, and his photos have always been so beautiful to me. Whenever I got the chance I would sneak out the family albums and surround myself with memories.

This mothers day, I would love to capture you with your loved ones. Together we can create timeless images that you will treasure for a lifetime. My session fee is just £20 and for March only, receive 10% off prints when you quote MUM11 at time of ordering (offer expires 31st March)

I also have gift vouchers available for sale, contact me for more information! amy@amylanephotography.com
